Wines

We choose wines for their particular regional characteristics, complexity and flavour.  The grape varieties are local to their area of production and typical of their terroir.  Like our wine merchant, we like to seek out the unusual and promote the distinctive and the individual.  We like wine to taste of the place it comes form.  Life’s too short to drink bland wines, don’t you think?

These wines need to be enjoyed, so the vines can be preserved and besides, they match our food and cheese so well.  We often recommend our winter stews and one pot dishes be drunk with a red from the Minervois, Domaine de L'Azerolle made from 50 year old Carignan vines, normally blended with other grapes, but in this case, superb on its own.  An often overlooked region of Bordeaux in favour of the grape regions of the Medoc, is a Graves wine from Chateau Trebiac. Its blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc and its lightly spiced red fruit make it a perfect match for dense fruity cheeses like Comte and Parmesan (yes, excellent on the cheeseboard), as well as a vintage Lincolnshire Poacher.

From a short list, we have wines of south west France, Italy and Portugal ranging in price from £8.00 to £12.00.

If you're looking for bubbles, we stock an outstanding Prosecco and also half bottles and bottles of Domain bottled Champagne. Prices range from £12.00 to £21.00.
